ARTIST BIO

Starting at a young age, my love for art began and became my source of enjoyment & relaxation. When life experiences became that of grief due to loss in my family, art became my way of coping and self-expression. In high school and college, I cultivated and developed my love for art by taking various art courses such as drawing, painting, ceramics/sculpture, & studio art.
The combination of art for fun, art education, and art as healing led to my interest in Art Therapy. I graduated from Hampton University and obtained my B.A. in Psychology with additional art credits. Currently, I am working to obtain a Master’s degree in Art Therapy, thus learning to cultivate my artist identity and how to use art to help clients heal. I continue to engage in personal artmaking, which I post to my Instagram page, @mymys_artshop. Through my art, I depict my life experiences and emotions, the African American experience, and popular culture. My primary media include drawing with various tools (ex. pencils, colored pencils, chalk pastels, illustration markers) and acrylic painting. I occasionally engage in photography as well.
